Ecuador
Overview
Ecuador is an upper-middle-income country with a population of over 16 million people. It’s also one of the world’s most biodiverse countries. Agriculture remains the main source of livelihoods, employing 28.5 per cent of the economically active population (68.5 per cent in rural areas).
The country has made considerable progress with economic, social and human development in the past decade, but persistent challenges remain to achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Our partners are contributing to — and promoting — sustainable development in their local communities and region. In particular, they’re helping diversify the rural economy, increase market opportunities for smallholder farmers and boost incomes.
