Lohbrunner Community Farm Cooperative

Canada

Their purpose

The Lohbrunner Community Farm Cooperative (LCFC) is growing food in a sustainable way on a 13-acre farm in Langford, British Columbia, Canada. What once belonged to Norma Lohbrunner is now held in trust with FarmFolk CityFolk (a non-profit supporting sustainable food systems) and managed by LCFC, which grows mostly vegetables and berries.

The co-op’s goal is to increase community engagement in wellness, social and educational farm experiences to benefit and support long-term food security in the region. They provide farmers with access to affordable land, supply fresh organic vegetables to the community and serve as a centre for education in sustainable farming practices.

Our collaboration

In 2016, we provided financial support to help develop the co-op by assisting with coordination, facilitation and organizational development; business plan; membership and production growth; and a trust model pilot. The grant also helped them develop a community farm plan, a 10-year financial sustainability plan, a marketing plan to engage members and a design for an outdoor education centre proposal.
